These 20 tips and tricks straight from my granny will help you overcome life’s little problems and make your life a whole lot easier. These hacks range from cooking to cleaning and are guaranteed to make these tasks a lot less dreadful.
No rolling pin?
You have decided to make pie. You take your time and make the dough and kneed it. You finally take the dough out from the fridge after its been resting but wait. You can’t find your rolling pin! Fear not. Internet to the rescue. Use a flat surfaced bottle instead. The day has been saved!
No cookie cutter?
Don’t have a cookie cutter but still want to make perfectly round cookies? Use a glass instead. Just roll the dough and cut perfect circles with your glass.
Want to lose weight? On a diet? Can’t give up pancakes? Make banana pancakes instead. These are super healthy and delicious. These are gluten-free and dairy-free. The en product is a thick custard-like texture with a creamy melt in your mouth quality. They are bound to keep your sweet tooth under control without it being an actual cheat meal.
All you have to do is mash two bananas and add 2 eggs to it. Mix it all together and cook. Easy.
Left over sauce?

Love to wear sleeveless but too conscious about your armpits? Use a potato to lighten them. Simply cut a potato in half and use it on your armpits. Potato works as a lightening agent because it had natural bleaching properties. Potatoes also contain anti-oxidants which are amazing for wrinkles. They also promote generation of healthy new cells revealing lighter, softer skin.
Greasy pans and pots?
Greasy pans take ages to clean. First you have to soak them and then scrub them. A better more efficient way to clean your pans is to use a mixture of baking soda and vinegar to break down the grease and cleaning a breeze.
Get rid of all stains
This hack is gold for clumsy people like me. Get rid of all kinds of satins.
Oil stains- use white chalk
Deodorant- anti static wipes
Coffee- baking soda
Fat- clear soda
Sweat- lemon juice
Baking soda to remove unpleasant odor
Had fish in the fridge? Left over foods? Use baking soda to get rid of all odors. All you have to do is put around 5 tablespoons of baking soda in a bowl and chuck it the fridge. The entire odor will be gone.
All natural surface cleaner
Make your own surface cleaner which is all natural and free of chemicals. Soak orange peels in vinegar and let that sit for 2 weeks. Afterwards just strain the liquid and dilute it with water. 2 parts water and 1 part the vinegar solution. This can be used to clean all kinds of surfaces including mirrors and glass table tops.
Lemon to preserve the color of fruits
Fruits if left out turn brown and ugly. Just squeeze some lemon juice on the fruit and it retains its natural colour and appearance.
Have a dirty microwave? Put orange peels in a bowl of water and heat it in the microwave for 5 mins. Afterwards just wipe the inside with a cloth. This works because the orange and the steam soften the stains and grease and make them easier to clean.
Strengthen nails and whiten nails with lemon juice
You can strengthen and whiten your nails with lemon juice. Pour warn water in a bowl add lemon juice. You can soak your nails for 3 to 5 mins. Lemon juice has vitamin c that works to strengthen nails and has natural bleaching properties which will be really helpful if your nails are yellow.
Make your jewelry look brand new
Boil water in a pot and add aluminum foil to it. Then add a tablespoon of soda. Wear gloves as a safety precaution. Now soak whatever piece of jewelry you want in this for 2 minutes and take it out. It will look brand new. This can also be done to your spoons, forks and other cutlery.
Got a dirty sofa?
Have a dirty sofa that has stubborn stains on it that won’t come off? Make a mixture of water, alcohol, soda and fabric softener. Put this in a spray bottle and spray it on the sofa then gently scrub.Later, wipe away the residue using a cloth. Your sofa will look clean and smell fresh.
Clean the blender in 30 seconds
Add dish soap and warm water in the blender and blend for 30 seconds. The blender will be completely clean after this. You wouldn’t have to get your hand in there and scrub and what not. This hack is sure to make your life a lot easier.
Clogged shower head?
Want to use the shower head but can’t because there is literally no water coming out of the shower head because it’s so clogged? Take a plastic pouch, add vinegar to it and tie that around the shower head so that the shower head is completely soaked in vinegar. Let this sit of a while. This will completely unclog your shower head.
Want to have eggs but on a diet so can’t use oil to fry them? Bake them instead. What ypu do is, take a muffin tray and crack open eggs in the tray.
Bake them for 15 minutes and just scoop them out of the tray once done. Perfect eggs every time.
Greasy stove filter?
In a large pot add water and baking soda. Soak the greasy stove filter and let it boil for a bit. When you’ll take out the stove filter, all you have to do is wipe it clean. This hack will work with other things too. Just make sure you give it enough soaking time.
If your play a lot of sports or just generally wear closed shoes a lot then this hack is for you. These shoes tend to get extremely smelly. This can be a cause of embarrassment. To avoid this all you have to do is put two spoons of salt in a fabric pouch and it overnight in your shoes. The salt will get rid of any nasty odor.
Get rid of the onion smell
Have you just cut an onion and now your hands smell? A simple way to combat this is to just wash your hands with salt.
