Woman Gives a Dying Rat a Second Chance to Live

Earth, a planet we share. You might be surprised to hear, but humans are not the only creatures that live on this planet. However, sometimes it doesn’t show based on our actions (pollution, deforestation and so forth). There is a large number of animal and plant life, some as beautiful as a peacock while others are not so much.

Rats are considered to be in the low end of the spectrum when it comes to good looking animals. Considered as pests, some people might even rank them right down there with cockroaches! (ew!).The first reaction a person has when they find a rat is to somehow get rid of it. Farmer, Andrea Davis would definitely agree. Being a farmer, Andrea has had her fair share of pests, especially rats that are a constant hindrance in her barn. However, when she found one close to death, she had a special moment, and her actions surprised many.

Just like humans, not all animals are considered cute and cuddly. Farmer Andrea Davis is used to dealing with pests such as rats and other rodents, and often has to get rid of them to keep her crops healthy.

While making her rounds, Andrea heard a sound coming from her cow’s water bucket in her barn. Sure that the bucket was empty, she moved closer to see what was inside.

What she found inside would have made any person cringe with disgust, a rat. The rat was trying his hardest to escape the water. He looked up at Andrea, fear in his eyes. Andrea couldn’t help but feel bad for the little creature.

Any other day, she would have killed the rat and gotten rid of the body, but there was something different about this one. He was tired and suffering from hypothermia.

Andrea fed the rat and kept him warm, hoping that the little rat would survive. Having never cared for a rat, Andrea felt out of her element, but she wouldn’t give up.

The farmer dried the little rat off, and put him in a cage with a hot water bottle, to protect him from prowling cats that frequented the barn. She fed him small pieces of chicken and slowly the rat began to gather strength.

After a short time, the rat started to act like a rat again! He was active and eating regularly. Andrea had never felt so proud of herself for helping this rat, but she had helped this animal survive. Everyone deserves another chance, and no one deserves to die needlessly, including a rat.

Andrea knew it was time to let the rat go, once he had gotten enough strength climb the walls of his cage. He was healthy again and Andrea did not want to keep him away from his natural habitat as well as his little rat family.

Animal experts claim that rats are not capable of emotional attachment to people, but the bond formed by going through the whole ordeal, seemed to be a special one. As strange as this might sound, Andrea claims that she would remember this moment for the rest of her life.
